“ The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

This quote expresses the most important part of teaching for me, which is respecting the students as individuals with different learning styles, personalities, goals, obstacles, and lifestyles. At Face to Face Learning Center, I want each student to feel valued for the special, unique person that they are.

I was born and raised in Troy, Ohio and received my Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio State University in English with a minor in Women’s Studies. I fell in love with teaching ESOL when I volunteered at the Dayton area Red Cross in their Immigrant services program. I moved to Florida 15 years ago to be closer to my nieces and taught for 10 years in the Broward County Public School’s Workforce Development Program. I transitioned to working for private language schools in the Miami area.

I feel like I was made to be an ESOL teacher. I love teaching engaging lessons that are both challenging and fun. I believe that every ESOL classroom should have a supportive and welcoming atmosphere where all students feel comfortable expressing their ideas. In my free time, I love to read everything from Stephen King to Shakespeare, listen to hip-hop and rap, watch horror movies, and swim in a vodka pool.
